SPECIALLY FOR JOB SEEKERS
When you look for a job, you are selling your qualifications,
knowledge, skills and abilities. If you want to sell
something, you usually have to invest in advertising.
Your advertising is the documentation that you develop
about yourself and present to the employer you would
like to work for.
The main component of this documentation is your
curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé. Not a general story
of your life, but a CV summarising information about
your qualifications, your professional qualities and
your career up to now.
Your CV should be accompanied by copies of your diplomas
and certificates , you can also attach your photo.
There should also be a covering letter. If
you have already made contact with your potential
employer, forward to him or her the required documents.
You may be given the employer's own application form
to complete. If you have not already applied for a
job there, the covering letter will also be your job
application.
If your documentation is interesting to the employer
and you are invited for an interview or some other
selection exercise, the second round of your self-presentation
begins. There you will not have time to think over
your answers as you did when writing your CV or job
application. That's why it is so important to prepare
yourself thoroughly, so you are not caught unawares.
