Who are they and what do they do? The job of a tailor or dressmaker is to make clothes of all kinds.

What are the activities of the job? - A tailor or dressmaker measures customers, gives advice on the suitability of clothes or other products - measures, draws, cuts and makes parts of clothes - prepares guidelines for making all kinds of clothes on a computer - adjusts, prepares and maintains sewing machines of various kinds - makes complete jackets, trousers, coats, waistcoats, costumes, formal dresses, evening dresses, dress suits, dinner jackets, period costumes and other costumes - makes bras, swimsuits, swimming trunks, shirts, blouses, skirts, dressing gowns, pyjamas, pullovers, underskirts and elastic underwear - embroiders various complex ornaments and patterns on clothes and underwear - makes camping, and medical tents.

Where is it done and under what conditions? He/she does the job in tailor's and dressmaker's shops, clothes factories and in households with min. adverse effects of the environment apart from noisiness.

What tools/equipment do they use? The tools most used are mainly sewing machines, needles, threads, scissors, ironing devices and computers. You must be also good with your hands.

What do you need to succeed? You should have completed an apprenticeship, be skillfulness with your hands, have aesthetic awareness, inventive and creative abilities, spatial imagination, patience, precision, ability to deal with people, and good eyesight.
