Who are they and what do they do? The bricklayer's job is mainly the construction and repair of buildings made of bricks and similar materials.
What are the activities of the job? Preparation of mortar and concrete and other construction materials, cutting brick and premoulded pieces to shape, measuring and building walls and partitions, arching openings, making the brickwork of walls and vaults including stone walls, - placing premoulded elements in place, - repair of plaster work - building, lining and repair of chimneys, fireplaces, furnaces and other thermal equipment - building shafts - putting in insulation against moisture and heat - repair of cement floor cover, pavement, tiles and mosaics - maintenance and repair of historical monuments.
Where is it done and under what conditions? On a construction site or in existing buildings of all kinds. Changing weather, dust, work at a height and in places that may sometimes be difficult to access is all part of the job.
What tools/equipment do they use? Trowel, bucket, smoother, hammer, spirit level and other hand tools, mixers, power hammers,
wall finishing machines, conveyors, and their own hands and legs.
