Who are they and what do they do? The glass jewellery maker makes various glass items, mostly decorative and other costume jewellery.

What are the activities of the job? Preparation, assembly and completion of glass accessories and parts of the same for production; blowing, shaping and modelling glass beads; shaping glass flowers; glass button production; shaping glass items using gas or petrol burners; soldering and assembly of necklaces, brooches, earrings, Christmas decorations, rosaries etc.; adding gold and silver foil, colour and decorative powders to create objects; shaping human figures of various glass types using a burner; soaking of pearls and buttons in solutions (colours, lacquers, silver and gelatin); control and operation of equipment for degreasing, tumbling and ultrasonic cleaning of products; designing and making complete costume jewellery sets and new patterns.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In glassmaking and costume jewellery workshops and factories. Contact with chemicals, high temperatures and noise are part of the working conditions.

What tools/equipment do they use? Blowpipes, jigs, blast lamps, burners, furnaces and other equipment.

What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed a vocational training course in costume jewellery or glassmaking, have practical skills and an aptitude for artistic creation.
