Who are they and what do they do? The primary school teacher enables pupils to learn the required subject matter and develop corresponding knowledge, skills and attitudes.

What are the activities of the job? S/he teaches a class, continually monitoring the level of the pupils' knowledge and skills (by means of written tests, oral examination, guided discussions or practical activities) and adjusts the classes according to need. S/he also motivates the pupils' interest in the subject matter, organises the unaided activities of pupils, solves disciplinary problems, manages meetings and other cooperation and communication with parents, cooperates with careers master/mistress, fulfils the duties of a class teacher and other administrative work. The teacher usually focuses on particular teaching subjects (usually 2 subjects). This may vary from one country to another in Europe, as may the age of pupils taught and the structure of the curriculum.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In school classrooms and laboratories.

What tools/equipment do they use? Various teaching aids according to the teacher's area of qualification (e.g. test tubes, stuffed animals, maps, videos, overhead projectors etc.).

What do you need to succeed? You need university education in the field of education, ability to exercise authority, communication skills and patience.
