Who are they and what do they do? The operator's job is to operate and maintain gas producing equipment and to do other work in gas plants.

What are the activities of the job? Transport and preparation of raw material for gas production, - operation of gas cleaning and drying equipment, pumping propane-butane gas from railway tank wagons or large volume vessels and delivering it to the specified place, - process control in the desulphurisation of and in the delivery of natural gas from underground storage caverns and control of other similar operations - operating a generator station for coal gasification - control of steam generating units, - control of gas delivery into the public distribution system, control of apparatus for the production of oxygen, nitrogen and rare gases - treatment, storage and processing of gas plant by-products - participation in the maintenance of gas plant equipment.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In the environment of gas plants where, of course, you can expect to come into contact with gases and various raw materials which involves dust, dirt and shift work.

What tools/equipment do they use? Pumping, cleaning and gasifying equipment, their control, measuring and indicator panels or switches or similar, conveyor belts or other means of moving materials mechanically, hand tools for maintenance and repairs, etc.

What do you need to succeed? You need apprentice training, self-discipline, fast reactions, and technical understanding.
