Who are they and what do they do? Motor vehicle drivers drive and maintain the motor vehicle assigned to them, which can be a passenger car, a van or a lorry, a tanker truck, a bus, a taxi, an ambulance, (for fast first aid services), a tractor etc.

What are the activities of the job? Driving the assigned car - everyday maintenance and checks on the car in order to assure safe transport - doing current repairs - arranging for more serious repair work to be done in specialised garages - in case of lorries participation during loading and unloading, taking care of the transported freight, including if necessary preparation of documents for customs - in case of special vehicles operating the machines mounted on the truck - in case of mass passenger transport (buses) ticket sale to passengers according to valid tariffs - keeping the prescribed evidence regarding the vehicle, the journeys performed, petrol consumption and passengers or freight transported (if applicable).

Where is it done and under what conditions? Inside the vehicle and outside wherever the transport goes. During repair, loading or unloading, work outside regular working hours, long journeys, work in greasy and unclean environments, contact with unpleasant passengers (bus drivers), dusty environments, possibly work with explosive or volatile chemicals (lorry, tanker-truck, tractor drivers) must be expected.

What tools/equipment do they use? The vehicle assigned for driving, current tools for maintenance and repair, your own hands and legs.

What do you need to succeed? You need a driving licence for the class of motor vehicles in question. For some kinds of vehicles additional courses and examinations are required. You also need quick responses, ability to concentrate, technical knowledge, discipline, reliability, to be able to find your way around using a map, and should have good eyesight and hearing.
