dust control technician:

Who are they and what do they do? The dust control technician is a worker who detects the occurrence, and measures the level, of noise, dust and various toxic substances in mines and who determines how they can be reduced. Other related job titles may include Dust Sampler if the job is mainly to do with monitoring and collecting samples.

What are the activities of the job? S/he monitors dust suspension levels in the air and checks that safety and health standards are being met and that protective gear is being worn. S/he issues warnings and fines when finding unsafe or unhealthy conditions.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In underground or open-cast mines. Significant amounts of dust and noise must be expected as well as shift work.

What tools/equipment do they use? Monitoring apparatus, paper records, protective clothing.

What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed higher education, have a systematic approach to work, and should be technically inclined.
