Who are they and what do they do? The flight engineer checks the technical condition of aircraft and that fuel reserves are complete and correct.

What are the activities of the job? He/she identifies and corrects small failures both during the flight as well as during pre-flight briefing and examination and provides for larger repairs by specialised mechanics.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In the aircraft, which obviously means coping with high-altitude conditions, working on shifts and longer periods away from home as well as certain kinds of danger.

What tools/equipment do they use? Craft hand tools, navigation instruments and aircraft control systems.

What do you need to succeed? Basic qualifications include a university degree, job training, and other requirements (health qualifications, foreign languages, flying hours, etc.) as required by the relevant aviation regulations and standards; you also need fast reactions and judgement and technical understanding.
