Who are they and what do they do? The computer operator operates (principally large mainframe) computers and their peripherals (printers, scanners, modems, etc.). They usually work for organisations that have to process a very large volume of data such as banks, or the police or other government and public authorities.

What are the activities of the job? He/she imputes data and completes other tasks using the software installed in the computer. Loads discs and tapes and runs programs, taking action when faults occur. Creates new data files as needed, and carries out routine maintenance tasks.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In computer rooms, computing centres as well as in normal offices.

What tools/equipment do they use? Computer equipment and keyboards.

What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed a college degree. You also need the ability to concentrate.
