Who are they and what do they do? Food processing operatives control biochemical, physical and chemical processes in manufacture and the processing of various foodstuffs and food products such as fermentation processes in the production of wine, beer, vinegar, yeast, the distillation of spirits, as well as other processes including evaporation, refining, thickening, etc.

What are the activities of the job? In these processes, the operatives perform various measurements and monitor the parameters of biochemical processes. They also carry out the basic care and maintenance of production equipment used in these processes.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In food processing plants, where exposure to chemical substances, higher temperatures and various fumes is often unavoidable.

What tools/equipment do they use? Various plant & equipment, automated systems and instrumentation.

What do you need to succeed? You need to be educated at least to skilled-craft level and able to react quickly.
