heating and ventilating fitter (air-conditioning fitter):

Who are they and what do they do? The fitter's work consists of the installation, adjustment, inspection and repair of air-conditioning equipment and other equipment for passing air around a building or structure.

What are the activities of the job? These include measuring and checking on the efficient working of air-handling equipment, installation and repair of air-ducts, bends, dampers, valves fans, and so on, connecting mechanical and electrical appliances and equipment as part of the installation of air-ducts, installation, adjustment, inspection and repair work of complex air-handling equipment such as drying ovens, ash/dust separators in power & heat plants, stabilisers, scrubbers, air-conditioning systems, etc.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In various environments in buildings, factory halls and even on the premises of power & heat plants. You may find some work objects hard to reach, and can expect changing weather conditions and high noise levels at times.

What tools/equipment do they use? Usually the normal fitter's hand tools and equipment, powered tools, welding sets and his/her own hands.

What do you need to succeed? You need vocational training, manual dexterity and technical imagination.
