Who are they and what do they do? The job comprises all activities associated with the manufacture, erection and maintenance of steel structures.

What are the activities of the job? This includes preparatory work, the erection, dismantling and repair of steel structures and parts, mainly parts of buildings, road and railway bridges, cranes, crane tracks, funicular railways, blast furnaces, boiler houses, water tanks, hydro electric power plants, wind power plants, outdoor electric substations, conveyor belts, transmitters etc. in outdoor conditions, review of steel structures, care and maintenance of a fitter's tools and equipment.

Where is it done and under what conditions? On construction sites, mainly outdoors sometimes under adverse weather conditions, usually at some height and in places that may be difficult to access.

What tools/equipment do they use? The tools are mainly flame and arc welding equipment, electric and pneumatic grinders, drillers, bending machines and other craft tools, as well as your own healthy arms and legs.

What do you need to succeed? You need apprentice training, manual skill, physical fitness, technical thinking, spatial imagination, self-discipline, and reliability.
