Who are they and what do they do? The telecommunications cable fitter installs, connects, and repairs telecommunications cables.

What are the activities of the job? Inspect and test lines for faults; splice, join and repair various types of cable used for telephones and other telecommunications media, their pressure and anticorrosion protection.

Where is it done and under what conditions? This work is carried out largely outdoors, and so exposed to changing weather conditions. They may also work up ladders or at heights or in confined spaces, and may work outside normal office hours.

What tools/equipment do they use? Craft hand tools, measuring instruments and other special accessories.

They may also use excavation machinery or other heavy equipment to dig trenches for the cables.
