In other industries, modellers or model makers build models of the product in prototype to help designers get a better idea of the design and how it works in practice.

What are the activities of the job? Creating models using e.g. plaster of Paris, or may work with a variety of materials including wood, plastic and metal. May work from a designer's drawings or plans or photographs.

What tools/equipment do they use? Various machines and equipment, hand tools, aids and preparations. Wood, plaster, metal, paper or card may be used or, in some cases, electronic components.

What do you need to succeed? You need apprentice training and considerable manual and technical skill.
