Who are they and what do they do? The mine rescue service mechanic does inspections, maintenance and repairs of all instruments and equipment used in mine emergencies and rescue operations.

What are the activities of the job? Inspects maintains and repairs e.g. breathing & resuscitation apparatus, blasting and hoisting equipment, gas-discharging equipment, thermometers, etc.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In mines and/or open pits and where there is significant dust & dirt. Shift-working will also be required.

What tools/equipment do they use? craft hand tools and measuring instruments.

What do you need to succeed? Basic qualifications for this job include vocational training, manual dexterity and technical awareness.
