Who are they and what do they do? The job of a digger is to do excavation, drilling and related work.
What are the activities of the job? S/he digs manually holes and trenches above ground and in all kinds of rock, throws up banks, finishes off the work after blasting or mechanical excavation in solid rock - drills rocks with a pneumatic drill in banks, trenches, pits and holes ready for blasting - drives wells and inserts timbering to hold up various structures - drives shafts in loose rocks with timbering - digs trenches and shafts while making use of timber supports and steel casing in muddy or loose shifting soil or airborne sand.
Where is it done and under what conditions? Mostly on construction sites in demanding weather conditions, places of work that are hard to access, or where there is dust and noise.
What tools/equipment do they use? Mainly pickaxes, shovels, pneumatic hammers and drills and their own hands and legs.
What do you need to succeed? This job does not require much education, but you will need to be physically fit.
