Who are they and what do they do? An insulator's job is to make insulation for different equipment such as piping, casings and spaces, against heat, cold, noise, vibrations, weather and other adverse conditions.

What are the activities of the job? His/her activities are the cutting and preparation of insulating materials, making, fitting and repairing thermal insulation of piping and objects including surface coverings using foils, cardboard, metal sheet, making thermal isolation for refrigerating and cooling plants, using insulation plates, making acid-resistant insulation, making and reinforcing and supporting structures for insulation, insulation against pressure and to keep water out, putting in position and repairing roof covers made from heavy insulating strips, PVC foils and insulating paint coatings, fitting vibration dampers to machinery.

Where is it done and under what conditions? The job is done inside buildings and facilities, in outdoor distribution channels and sewers, in an environment where there is dust and dirt, and where chemical substances are present, where there may be changes in the weather, high temperatures and on sites which are difficult to access including work at a height.

What tools/equipment do they use? The tools mostly used are boilers for melting asphalt and tar, transport bins, mixers, hand tools such as chisels, pliers, saws, brushes. You also need a good pair of hands The insulating materials most often used are rock wool, asphalt/tar, plastic and other foils and plates, special paints etc.

What do you need to succeed? You need apprentice training, manual dexterity, physical fitness.
