Who are they and what do they do? The hygiene service assistant is an employee of the Hygiene and Epidemiology Station whose main task consists of monitoring the current level of hygiene in the area of his/her specialisation, depending on what branch of hygiene s/he is working in (food hygiene, hygiene at work, children and adolescents' health, epidemiology and the like). Public health as well as the maintenance of healthy living conditions are their concern As a rule, the hygiene service assistant assists doctors in the implementation of their job. What are the activities of the job? Activities include: Monitoring compliance with hygiene and epidemics control regulations - performance of epidemiological investigations in the infection site - sampling from infection sites, from medical facilities and the like, the forwarding of samples to specialised laboratories - laboratory test results assessment - evaluation of machines, facilities, and even complete plants, with regard to possible risks of the work environment - imposing penalties and other sanctions - collection and accumulation of data for epidemiological reports and studies, for the follow up of the population's state of health - consulting activities in the field of hygiene and epidemiology - organisation of seminars and courses for the public outside the health professions. Where is it done and under what conditions?- Depending on the assistant's specialisation the work is undertaken on various sites- occasionally in unfavourable environments (manufacturing plants in the case of work hygiene, hospitals or people with different infections in the case of epidemiology, and such like). What tools/equipment do they use? Ordinary office technology including computers and different sorts of equipment and technology relevant to inspection and analysis will be used to carry out the work. What do you need to succeed? Completed secondary education to school-leaving examination level, and graduation in further specialised hygiene education is essential, plus the ability to deal with people, speedy decision-making, skillfulness, reliability.
