Who are they and what do they do? Bookmakers determine odds and receive and pay off bets on the results of sporting or other events.

What are the activities of the job? Determining risks to decide odds and to hedge or refuse bets; preparing and issuing lists of approximate odds; explaining and interpreting operating rules of a gambling establishment.

Where is it done and under what conditions? Mainly in betting agencies but sometimes also on racecourses and at sporting events.

What tools/equipment do they use? Information technology, televisions, telephone, fax, and possibly other office equipment.

What do you need to succeed? You need upper secondary education
