Who are they and what do they do? The biotechnologist carries out a wide range of activities related to the research and use of biological processes to obtain and/or refine consumer goods in the food industry, agriculture and ecology.

What are the activities of the job? Carrying out scientific investigations and laboratory experiments - developing, counseling, organising and managing issues and people in the implementation of new technologies in the production of foodstuffs, fermentation, microbiological and biological products.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In different places indoors - special sterile cubicles, laboratories, production departments, computer rooms, and offices. You may needs to work with toxic compounds, pathogens etc.. In these cases protective clothing and other protective means are used.

What tools/equipment do they use? Industrial and laboratory equipment for chemical, biochemical, microbiological purposes; chemicals; laboratory methods, laboratory and industrial regulations; plant and animal organisms, microorganisms and products of their life activity; computers and software; scientific publications.

What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed university, with a masters degree and higher, in biotechnology or related sciences.
