Who are they and what do they do? The dispatcher is a utility worker responsible for electricity supplies for consumers in the relevant region and for the whole of the operation of the electricity grid within this area. They may have broader managerial responsibilities as well.

What are the activities of the job? He/she follows the operating information from the power plant and organises, if necessary, remedial action in case of failures. S/he monitors the control board showing the condition of lines and equipment, making adjustments, or getting other workers to do so, if necessary.

Where is it done and under what conditions? This job is done in power plants. Shift working must be expected. The work can involve, or be concerned with, the safety of others as well as simply consumer convenience.

What tools/equipment do they use? Automated, control and measurement equipment and instrumentation including computer screens.

What do you need to succeed? Basic qualifications for this job include a full college degree, ability to react quickly, concentration at work and technical awareness.
